How much does solar cost in Bali in 2025?

It's the question we get asked most: "What will solar actually cost me?"

The honest answer is: it depends on your system size and type. But unlike most industries, solar pricing is relatively straightforward once you understand the key variables. Here's our transparent 2025 guide.

The three cost drivers

1. System size (kWp)

Solar is priced per kilowatt-peak (kWp) of installed capacity. A larger system costs more in total, but the cost-per-Wp typically falls slightly at larger sizes.

2. System type

  • On-grid: No battery. Lowest cost. ~Rp 13,000/Wp
  • Hybrid: With battery storage. ~Rp 16,000/Wp
  • Off-grid: Full independence, larger battery bank. ~Rp 22,000/Wp

3. What's included

A credible solar company includes: panels, inverter, mounting structure, AC/DC wiring, monitoring system, PLN permits, commissioning, and a workmanship warranty. Be wary of quotes that don't explicitly list permitting.

2025 pricing guide by property type

Expat home (150–300 m²)

  • Typical usage: 300–600 kWh/month
  • Recommended system: 3–7 kWp on-grid or hybrid
  • Indicative cost: Rp 40–110 million

Private villa (1–3 bedrooms, with pool)

  • Typical usage: 600–1,200 kWh/month
  • Recommended system: 7–15 kWp hybrid
  • Indicative cost: Rp 112–240 million

Boutique hotel (10–30 rooms)

  • Typical usage: 3,000–8,000 kWh/month
  • Recommended system: 35–95 kWp on-grid or hybrid
  • Indicative cost: Rp 455M – Rp 1.5 billion

What does a typical villa system look like?

Let's take a real example: a 2-bedroom villa in Canggu with a pool, two ACs, and a PLN bill of Rp 3 million/month.

SpecificationValue
Monthly consumption~1,765 kWh
System size~13 kWp
Panel count33 × 400Wp panels
System typeHybrid (with battery)
Estimated costRp 208 million
Monthly savingsRp 2.55 million (85%)
Annual savingsRp 30.6 million
Payback period~6.8 years

After payback, the system continues generating savings for 15–20 more years. Panel degradation is typically less than 0.5% per year on Tier 1 panels.

Why panel prices dropped in 2024–2025

Global solar panel prices fell approximately 40% between 2022 and 2024, driven by:

  • Massive expansion of Chinese panel manufacturing
  • Improved cell efficiency (most standard panels now 400–420Wp)
  • Increased competition among Indonesian importers

This means 2025 is an excellent time to install — prices are near historic lows while PLN tariffs continue to increase.

Hidden costs to watch out for

When comparing quotes, check whether the following are included:

  • Grid connection permit — mandatory for grid-tied systems; costs Rp 2–5 million
  • PLN net-metering application — can take 4–8 weeks, some companies charge separately
  • Roof reinforcement — rare but sometimes needed for old tile roofs
  • Concrete pad for inverter/battery cabinet — often quoted separately
  • Annual maintenance — not included in system cost; budget Rp 2–3 million/year

At SuryaTech Solar, all permitting and PLN applications are always included in our quoted price.
